Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest is a high-altitude, montane tropical rainforest in southern Rwanda established as a forest reserve in 1933. The conservation area consists of approximately 1015 km2. The forest is located in the Albertine Rift, a series of mountain ranges beginning at the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda and including eastern D.R. Congo, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and northern Zambia. Contiguous with Kibira National Park in Burundi, Nyungwe is one of the largest montane rainforests remaining in Africa and East Africa’s largest protected high-altitude rainforest

Important: To protect Primates from Covid-19, a negative PCR Test is required to enter Nyungwe Forest NP. We understand a Rapid Test is accepted for non primate visits, but these are the official Visit Rwanda rules, which may change without notice. Testing is not included.
National Park activities are operated by the park authorities. Times are an estimate of the duration of your visit including travel time after meeting your guide. Primate wildlife experiences including gorillas, golden monkeys, colobus and chimpanzees require trekking on foot in the forest, which, with the exception of golden monkeys can be slippery and steep, and includes one hour of close wildlife observation. Prices shown here are for the permit only. Transport is not included. For inclusive options, please select one of our tours or excursions.
You can also include these experiences in our tours, or hire a car to build your own independent tour of Rwanda.
