Emergency Medical Evacuation Service Insurance
Foreign helicopter insurance is not sufficient to cover emergency helicopter evacuation in Rwanda, so we include Rwandan Emergency Medical Evacuation Service Insurance in all our tours but not individual activities, permits, experiences or stand alone car hire and transfers.
For all other foreign visitors to Rwanda, to guarantee that in the event of a medical emergency, you will be transferred to hospital by the fastest possible method, including helicopter transfer when available, Rwandan Emergency Medical Evacuation Service Insurance is required.
In the event of an emergency, visitors with Emergency Medical Evacuation Service Insurance, their guide, or our support staff, can call a 24/7 emergency number and a trained paramedic will be on hand to support and take care of everything from organising the fastest way to get you to hospital to making sure that you get the right treatment after you arrive.
If you do not have Rwandan Emergency Medical Evacuation Service Insurance, if you request a helicopter transfer to hospital, you will be expected to pay the helicopter charge of USD 3,000 per hour in advance and then reclaim from your insurance. When time is critical, this takes time to arrange. Also, with regret, whilst we would do all we can to arrange an ambulance for any of our clients, Kingfisher Journeys cannot help arrange helicopter transfers for anyone who does not have Rwandan Emergency Medical Evacuation Service Insurance.

Note:
- Helicopters do not fly in Rwanda at night or in bad weather. If a helicopter is not available, a land or water ambulance will be arranged to get you to hospital by the fastest possible route.
- The insurance is valid for a fixed period of 14 days, extensions are only possible by purchasing an additional 14 days of cover.
- There is no special certificate or insurance policy issued. After purchase, you will be issued a Policy number and the emergency contact details. These details can also be used to verify the cover.
