​With a vibrant waterfront and relaxed atmosphere, Gisenyi in Rubavu District, is a popular resort town at the north of Lake Kivu. Driving time: 4 hours from Kigali.

Paradis Malahide, is a super, mid range hotel on the outskirts of Gisenyi, right next to the lake with one of the most authentic African restaurants in Rwanda. Please buy a meal or stay here if you are doing one of our trips.

Kayaking Trips from Kibuye (Karongi)
Go on a journey of discovery to Rwanda's Bay of Islands to find small but protected natural forests, hike to the summit of Munini (known as Napoleon's Island) to see a raucous colony of fruit bats and incredible views over the lake, continue to our remote camping site for an overnight adventure or continue on a three or four day journey to Gisenyi calling into see local markets, coffee experiences and meet Kivu's fisherfolk.

Most of the tourist hotels are on peninsulas in the lake making Kibuye in Karongi District, a beautiful spot half way along Lake Kivu. Driving time: 3 hours from Kigali.
